Welcome to our 2021 Walkathon fundraiser for SEGD!!
Did you know that Southeastern Guide Dogs breeds, raises, and trains some of the finest guide dogs, service dogs, and skilled companion dogs in the world? The puppies are adorable, but to witness these amazing dogs in training is nothing short of miraculous. Thanks to the intelligence and fine training of these dogs, people with vision loss, veterans with disabilities, and children with significant challenges find the freedom, confidence, and independence they need.
When we learned that Southeastern Guide Dogs relies 100% on private donations, receives no government funding, and doesn't charge for their dogs or services, we decided to participate in their biggest fundraiser of the year, the Walkathon. We have set an ambitious Walkathon fundraising goal and are excited to contribute to the life changing mission of Southeastern Guide Dogs. Here is our personal story!!:
In 1997 we attended a high school football game and as we walked up to go into the stadium we ran into a couple with a puppy in a blue coat and stopped them to ask questions. Six months later we received our first puppy, a goldador(lab and golden cross) named Miles to raise for SEGD. A little over a year later we had the incredible experience of meeting the man who he would guide for the next 11 years- working until he was 13 years old and up to 6 months before he died. A full long guide dog career. Well, the rest is history and still in the making. We have raised 10 puppies, fundraised for years, mentored new raisers. Tim has served on the board of directors for the school and as chairman and is currently serving once more for another term. We have made friends all over the country who both raise puppies and are guide dog users or train these dogs or work in management at the school. We are dear friends with the couple we met at that football game over 23 years ago. And their 23rd guide dog puppy was just matched with a blind gentleman last month and has gone home with him to begin their journey together as a team. Both his companion and his eyes. The stories could go on and on but we will get to the point.
This is an incredible organization that we ask you to support each spring as part of the Walkathon fundraiser. This year we will all be walking in a virtual way on our own due to the pandemic but know someday we will be back with this wonderful group walking again. The last year has been tough for our nonprofits but SEGD has worked through the best they can and have continued to safely provide dogs for our blind students and veterans struggling with PTSD. Check out their website for some amazing videos. Please give generously. We thank you, the pups thank you and those who cannot see or have seen too much thank you the most.

PS--The virtual walk will be on May 1st so if you want to be a part put on your walking shoes, grab your dog if you have one and hit the pavement. If you do please share your photos with us and we can pass along to SEGD!
