Amy's Walkathon Page
Welcome to my Walkathon page! I've been involved with Southeastern Guide Dogs for 3 years as a puppy raiser and I am currently raising my third puppy. Here are the puppies i've raised:
- Shay-Ley (top left photo): female yellow lab that is now a K-9 Accelerant Detection dog in Jacksonville. Shay-Ley's fear of novel objects kept her from becoming a guide or service dog, but she found her calling solving arson crime. Shay-Ley now goes into a fire scene and can alert her fire marshal handler when she smells an accelerant that would be used to start a fire.
- Midnight (bottom left photo): female black lab that is currently in training at Southeastern Guide Dogs. Midnight has recently been placed in the Children's program. We are waiting for Midnight to be matched with her forever friend!
- Cleatis (right photo): male yellow lab that is energetic and eager to please. I am excited for the next year I have with Cleatis! I picked up Cleatis at the end of July 2019 and I will have him until next July.
On top of puppy raising, this is my third year fundraising for the Walkathon and I have recently started a Puppy Club at University of Florida. This organization is so incredible and I am so happy to help out any way I can. Please read more about Southeastern Guide Dogs:
Did you know that Southeastern Guide Dogs breeds, raises, and trains some of the finest guide dogs, service dogs, and skilled companion dogs in the world? The puppies are adorable, but to witness these amazing dogs in training is nothing short of miraculous. Thanks to the intelligence and fine training of these dogs, people with vision loss, veterans with disabilities, and children with significant challenges find the freedom, confidence, and independence they need.
When I learned that Southeastern Guide Dogs relies 100% on private donations, receives no government funding, and doesn't charge for their dogs or services, I decided to participate in their biggest fundraiser of the year, the Walkathon. I've set an ambitious Walkathon fundraising goal and am excited to contribute to the life changing mission of Southeastern Guide Dogs.
